Read Aloud

What does this do?

Lets students have lesson slides, interactive activities, assignments and assessment questions read aloud to them, supporting learners with dyslexia, visual impairment, other reading difficulties, and students still building confidence reading in English. Supports multiple languages where available.

When should I use it?

Use this whenever a student would benefit from hearing content rather than only reading it — enable it for a whole class or set it on an individual Student Support Profile.

How do I use it?

  1. 1Enable Read Aloud for a class or for an individual student's Support Profile
  2. 2Students see a Read Aloud control on lessons, activities, assignments and assessments
  3. 3Students press play to hear the current question or slide read aloud
  4. 4If the student's home language is set and translation is available, Read Aloud can read the translated text

Common mistakes

  • Expecting Read Aloud in every language — language coverage depends on what's available for that content
  • Not realising Read Aloud is OR-gated — it turns on if enabled at either class or individual student level
