Built by a teacher, for schools
Classfolio is a teaching platform made in England by a serving Computing teacher. It brings planning, live lessons, assessment, revision, pupil portfolios and staff CPD into one place, so teachers spend less time moving between tools and more time teaching.
What Classfolio does
Most schools run the teaching week across a dozen disconnected tools: a slide deck for the lesson, a quiz site for retrieval practice, a separate platform for homework, a spreadsheet for marks, and a shared drive for everything else. Nothing joins up, the same information is typed in several times, and nobody can see the whole picture of a pupil in one place.
Classfolio connects that workflow end to end. A teacher plans a lesson, delivers it live with interactive activities pupils join from any device, sets assessments and assignments that can be marked automatically or by hand, and watches the results build into each pupil's portfolio over time. Schools can run staff CPD and questionnaires through the same platform.

How it started
Classfolio was not built in a startup office. It was built by a teacher who wanted the tools to work properly in his own classroom, and it has been shaped by using it every week with real classes ever since.
- 2024Development began, built around the way a real teaching week actually runs rather than around a product roadmap.
- 2025Piloted with live classes in the founder's own secondary school. That is where most of the design decisions were tested, and a good many were rewritten.
- 2026Classfolio Ltd was incorporated on 6 August 2026, to put the platform on a proper commercial footing for schools beyond the one it started in.
The company is younger than the software. Classfolio was built and used in classrooms for two years before Classfolio Ltd was incorporated — the company was formed to support other schools properly, not to begin the work.
Who is behind it
Classfolio was founded by James Connolly, a serving Computing teacher and subject lead who has taught since 2009 and is the Computer Science Subject Lead for the Torch SCITT.
He teaches primarily at Key Stage 3 with some Key Stage 4, and still teaches a timetable. Classfolio is built alongside that, which is the reason it is opinionated about teacher workload: every feature has to survive being used by somebody with a lesson starting in five minutes.

Made in England
Designed around the English curriculum, key stages and school calendar, rather than adapted from another country's system.
UK data residency
All data is stored and processed in Google Cloud's London region (europe-west2). Pupil data does not leave the UK.
Built by a practising teacher
Every feature is used in a real classroom before it is asked of anybody else's.
Accessible and multilingual
Interface translation, EAL support for pupils learning in English, and accessibility treated as standing work rather than an afterthought.
