Live lessons

Launching a live lesson

Before you start

You need a lesson built and at least one class set up before going live. If you have not done this yet, see Getting started.

Step 1 — Open your lesson

Go to Lessons from your teacher dashboard and open the lesson you want to run. You can preview any slide before launching.

Step 2 — Launch a session

Click Launch session (or Go live) in the top right of the lesson editor. Select the class you are teaching, then confirm to start the session. A 5-letter session code will appear — this is what students use to join.

Step 3 — Students join

Display the session code to your class — project it on screen, write it on the board, or share it verbally. Students go to classfolio.co.uk, enter the code, and they are in. You will see each student appear in your participant list as they join.

Students do not need to do anything else — they stay on the live view and respond to each activity as you advance through slides.

Step 4 — Advance and reveal

Use the Next and Prev controls at the bottom of the teacher screen to move between slides. For questions and activities, you control when results are revealed — responses collect silently until you click Show results.

  • A live response count shows how many students have answered.
  • Cold call any student to spotlight their response on the class screen.
  • You can pause on any slide for as long as you need.

Step 5 — End the session

When you have finished the lesson, click End session. Student responses are saved automatically to the session record and to each student's Student Folio. You can review the full session analysis from your dashboard at any time.

Tips

  • Display the teacher screen on your projector and keep a personal view on your laptop or tablet.
  • The Control room view gives you a more detailed live view of responses — useful on a separate screen.
  • If a student enters the wrong code or joins late, they can still enter the correct code and join mid-session.
  • Session codes expire when you end the session.
