Assessments
Paper assessments: print, scan and mark
What does this do?
Run an assessment on paper. Classfolio prints one paper per pupil with their name and a code on every page. After the test, you upload whatever the photocopier sends — a zip, a PDF or page images — and the codes match every page to the right pupil. The handwriting is transcribed, then marked by AI, and nothing is marked until you have seen each answer beside the handwriting.
When should I use it?
Use it for mock exams and end-of-unit tests that must be sat on paper, or for classes without enough devices. A diagram question lets pupils draw — a flowchart or a labelled sketch — and the drawing is marked from the scan.

How do I use it?
- 1On the assessment's Run page, choose the class and the Paper delivery mode, then launch
- 2Choose Print papers — one per pupil. Tick Printing double-sided if your printer does
- 3Hand them out in any order; the codes do the matching
- 4Scan the completed papers on the photocopier and choose Scan papers, then Choose scan files
- 5Check the table — every paper should say Complete. Use Re-scan for a single pupil if pages are missing
- 6Choose Transcribe, then Review and mark: check each answer beside its handwriting before marks are saved
Common mistakes
- Photocopying another pupil's paper for someone who needs one — two sheets with the same code cannot both be matched. Print again from the sitting instead
- Worrying about page order — the codes do the matching, so the order does not matter
- Expecting marks straight after scanning — transcribing and reviewing come first, and nothing is marked until you have reviewed it
