Coursework and NEA tracker (early access)
What does this do?
Early access: the coursework tracker may change as schools use it. Coursework holds the criteria for a piece of coursework or NEA (each task, what it is marked on and its mark bands) in your exam board's own words. Track a class against them to see which criteria each pupil has evidence for. Confirm a band and mark for each criterion, record the general feedback you give, and let pupils hand in their files for marking. A department colleague can moderate the marks without changing them.
When should I use it?
Use it across a coursework or NEA unit, from the first lesson to the moderation sample: to see at a glance who is missing evidence for which criterion, to keep the feedback record that moderation asks for, and to mark against the real mark scheme. Hand-in, and the AI's help with it, are switched on by your school: a school administrator turns them on in Settings, under Coursework.
How do I use it?
- 1Open Coursework, under Assess, and add a criteria set: Import from the exam board (add the assignment brief and mark scheme), Create with AI, or Build by hand
- 2Check the set in the editor. Any line not found word for word in your documents is flagged: compare it with the mark scheme and tick I have checked it. Then choose Approve
- 3Share the set with your department if colleagues teach the same unit or moderate it. A colleague sees a shared set read-only
- 4Choose Track a class and pick the class. The grid shows each pupil against each criterion; select a cell to link work as evidence or to see what is linked
- 5In a cell, record the feedback you gave. The log is permanent, as moderation needs: to correct an entry, add another. Insert from comment bank to start from a comment you approved earlier
- 6Choose a band and mark under Band and mark, then Confirm. Pupils see confirmed marks only, and only once their list is shown to them
- 7To collect the work, tick Pupils can hand in work for this coursework and copy the pupils' link. Pupils upload up to 10 files (PDF, PowerPoint, Word or photos of paper pages, 300 pages in all) and check which task each page belongs to
- 8Open a pupil's hand-in with View to read their pages: Only this task's pages, or All pages
- 9If your school allows it, choose Mark with AI, or Mark all with AI for the class. Open a criterion, choose Show the AI's proposal, check the quoted pages against the work, and choose Use this only if you agree. You still confirm every mark
- 10Download the feedback log and the moderation record as CSV for your exam board's moderator
Common mistakes
- Approving an imported set without checking the flagged lines: a flag means the wording was not found word for word in your documents
- Writing feedback that tells the pupil exactly what to do or gives a numeric mark: exam boards usually allow general feedback only. The log reminds you, and comment banks warn about it
- Ticking Let the marker see the pages as pictures for work with pupils' names on it: names are removed from the text the AI reads, but a picture cannot be checked for a name written on the work
- Looking at the AI's proposal before you mark: confirm your own mark first if you want to know how often the AI agrees with you. The agreement figure counts only marks confirmed without looking
- Expecting the hand-in to package the work for the exam board: it is for marking in Classfolio. Send your moderation sample to the board in the way it asks
