School settings: which features your school switches on
What does this do?
The Settings page in School admin is where a school decides what Classfolio may do for its teachers and pupils. Several features stay off until the school turns them on, because they involve pupils' data or processing outside the UK: AI image generation, AI assistant connections, the assistant reading pupil results, pupils handing in files, speaking recordings and department learning gaps. The same page lets the school hold every AI mark until a teacher has reviewed it, and join early access to new features.
When should I use it?
Open it when you set up your school, when a teacher asks why a feature is missing (a teacher sees a notice saying the school has kept it off), or when your data protection lead wants to see exactly what each setting does: each one explains who sees what, and what is never shared. With an individual account there is no school administrator, so you decide these settings for your own classes on the same page, from Account, Settings for your classes.

How do I use it?
- 1Open School admin from the side menu and choose Settings
- 2Check School information, and set your timezone, school type and country under Editable Settings
- 3Read each setting before you turn it on: it says who can see what, what is never sent, and where it is processed
- 4Tick a setting to turn it on for every teacher at the school. It saves straight away
- 5To make sure no pupil sees an AI mark before a teacher, tick Hold every AI mark until a teacher has reviewed it
- 6For speaking recordings, also choose how long recordings are kept
- 7To try new features before everyone else, choose Join early access
Common mistakes
- Expecting a teacher to switch on something the school has kept off — a teacher cannot switch on what the school has kept off
- Thinking Join early access turns on recordings or pupil uploads — anything that needs the school's consent keeps its own setting
- Changing the AI mark hold and expecting work already set to change — it applies to work set afterwards
