Who is struggling in a live lesson

What does this do?

During a live lesson the Live Assistant can name the pupils who need support and those doing well, worked out from their marked answers so far, plus a separate list of pupils who have not answered. It is deliberately cautious: it names nobody until a pupil has at least three marked answers, and if the whole class is finding it hard it says so instead of naming anyone.

When should I use it?

Use it while pupils are answering, to decide who to go and sit with. It is closed by default on the projected screen, because it names children.

How do I use it?

  1. 1Present the lesson as normal
  2. 2Open the Live Assistant on your own screen, not the projector
  3. 3Read the three lists: Needs support, Doing well and No answer
  4. 4Go and support the named pupils — a pupil with no answer often has a device problem rather than a learning one

Common mistakes

  • Opening it on the projector — it names pupils, so keep it on your own screen
  • Expecting names after one question — nobody is named until they have at least three marked answers
  • Reading silence as a wrong answer — unanswered and unmarked answers are never counted as wrong
