Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Classfolio

What does this do?

Connect an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT directly to your Classfolio account, so you can ask it to build lessons, assessments, assignments, questionnaires and printable resources without leaving the chat. Everything it makes arrives in Classfolio as a private draft for you to review, edit and finish. Your assistant can only see and change your own content — it can never read student responses, marks or submissions, and it can never publish, share or deploy anything to a class.

When should I use it?

Use this when you would rather plan by describing what you want in conversation than by filling in forms — for example 'build me a Year 9 lesson on coastal erosion with a retrieval starter', or 'turn this lesson into an assessment'. It is also useful for quickly drafting a pupil voice questionnaire or a knowledge organiser.

How do I use it?

1. 1In Classfolio, open Settings → AI connections (/teacher/connections).
2. 2Under 'Enable your account', click 'Enable AI connections'. If it says 'Awaiting admin', your school administrator still needs to switch AI connections on for your school.
3. 3Copy the Classfolio server URL shown on that page.
4. 4In Claude: open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL, and confirm. In ChatGPT: open Settings → Connectors (developer mode may be required on your plan), add a custom MCP connector, and paste the URL.
5. 5Your assistant opens a Classfolio sign-in window. Sign in with the account you use for Classfolio and choose Approve.
6. 6Back in the chat, ask for what you want — for example 'Create a Year 7 lesson introducing binary numbers with a poll and an exit ticket'.
7. 7Open the link your assistant returns, review the draft in Classfolio, then finish and deploy it as normal.

Common mistakes

• Approving the connection but not clicking 'Enable AI connections' first — the sign-in will refuse with 'Connection not allowed'.
• Adding the connector while your school has not been enabled yet — ask your Classfolio administrator to switch on AI connections for your school.
• Expecting the assistant to publish or share work: everything it creates is a private draft, and deploying to a class is always done by you in Classfolio.
• Asking it for student marks or responses — it has no access to any pupil data, by design.
• Adding the connector, then adding new Classfolio tools later: if your assistant says a tool does not exist, remove and re-add the connector so it refreshes its tool list.
