Giving a trainee access to a Class Space

What does this do?

Trainee teachers can be added to a single Class Space at one of two levels. A contributor writes messages that you approve first. A moderator publishes immediately and can approve pupil messages. A trainee only ever sees the spaces you add them to.

When should I use it?

Use it when a trainee or student teacher is working with one of your classes and needs to communicate with them, without giving them access to anything else.

How do I use it?

1. 1Open the Class Space and choose Settings
2. 2Scroll to Trainee teachers and enter the trainee's user ID
3. 3Click Assign as contributor
4. 4Change their level to Moderator if they should publish without approval
5. 5Tick 'May upload files' if a moderator needs to attach files
6. 6Use Remove to end their access — it stops immediately

Common mistakes

• Trying to add a pupil from the class — this is refused, because a staff assignment would remove that pupil's own access to the space
• Assuming a trainee can see every class — they only ever see spaces they are explicitly assigned to
• Giving moderator level when contributor is enough — a moderator's posts are not checked by anyone
